until we can party again, i'll be here is a reflection on the history of Chicago gay bars and how these spaces existed (or ceased to exist) before, during, and after pandemics. Using images, text, music, and stories sourced from Facebook groups, archives, and ongoing conversations with performance artist and queer elder Paul Escriva, I attempted to create a temporary queer club in the window of the SAIC galleries where I danced for two hours, inviting passersby to engage by listening, watching, dancing, and remembering people and spaces that have been lost before in parallel to mourning the loss and isolation we are currently experiencing.
